Exciting… Exceeding Expectations… and economical…

“Orlege is a haven of peace, tranquillity and beauty. I have not been so relaxed for such a long time. The atmosphere was so welcoming, it’s so cleverly designed and everything worked so well.” We want this always to be like this for our guests, and try never to lose sight of our vision, our ABC of Self-Catering: Ambience, Benefits and Customer Care.

So what’s so special about this 2 storey, open-flow, characterful, contemporary conversion, named after the fields it overlooks, and retaining unusual features from its former function as a building for rolling oats for feeding livestock?

The layout is both imaginative and practical. You'll find layout plans at the base of this page.

  • Upstairs: accessed via an open stairwell and ash staircase with tension wire balustrade, a spacious, split level bedroom characterised by an angled, star-burst ceiling with views across the tree-tops, offers the flexibility of 3 single luxurious divan beds, or a single + a pair zip-linked together to create a king-size double bed
  • An en-suite bathroom, with shower and bath, flooded with light, with intriguing shapes and surprises
  • An inviting mezzanine gallery area with sofa bed, (124 cms. wide) perfect for day-dreaming and dozing

  • Downstairs: double-height and split level ceilings, solid oak floors and doors, wonderful limestone flagstones, a curved wall, deep granite windowsills reflecting within their polished depths the branches of the stately maple tree outside and SPACE!
  • Reflecting the view that “home is where the hearth is” pride of place within the double-height living space is given to the multifuel stove which burns peat, coal and logs. Guests can relax into the large leather settees, watch TV, a film or a DVD, listen to the radio or to the birds outside. Light floods in from the two original windows in the end gable, the velux roof lights and Scandinavian glazed sliding doors which open onto a small flagstoned courtyard.
  • Adjacent to the living area, the dining area with glass-topped table, seating 6, can be separated off from the back area housing a large elegant oak cupboard, its inner section discreetly concealing a luxury pull-down double bed with full size, fully sprung mattress. A quick swish of a double-sided luxurious curtain transforms this lower-ceilinged area into a bedroom with its own window and luxury en-suite shower and bathroom. At the base of this page we show you how! However after viewing don't forget to scroll back to this point on the page or you'll miss the link to our exciting Gallery Page.
  • From the living area, space flows past the entrance and staircase and on into the kitchen, with a separate utility room offset from the generous porch area. Here, in the kitchen high above are some of the features that make this conversion outstanding: the old beams and centuries-old pulley wheels, and facing these from a floored ledge, Mr. Fox, as you have never seen him before, sculpted from old farm machinery, and eying up his cockerel lunch! “It is the personal touches, the original artworks, the retention of original fittings blending so well with modern fittings, the quality of the detailing and the craftsmanship” in the words of a journalist writing in the “Property Ladder” Magazine “that sets this place apart. The Hamiltons have certainly earned those five stars.”
  • With ample floor space, a feeling of airiness, everything you would expect, and more, in the way of kitchen paraphernalia is there for your use. Enhanced by a fitted oak kitchen with granite worktops, even a wall-mounted third TV, it’s tempting to self-cater and eat in-house all of the time. ( Or alfresco in the cobbled patio area.)
  • Incredibly well insulated, guests can adjust the oil-fired central heating options to suit their needs.
  • Other than the patio area, Orlege lacks a garden unique to itself, but guests are welcome to relax under the magnificent maple tree and wooded area just feet away from the house. And of course explore our 1700 acres of farmland on the Pentland Hills
